About Lincolnsoft

Lincolnsoft is an independent game developer founded on February 12, 1999, by Chris Umhoefer, in honor of Abraham Lincoln's 190th birthday. Lincolnsoft is inspired by Abraham Lincoln, this is why I called it Lincolnsoft. Lincolnsoft is currently located in Springfield, Illinois.

Lincolnsoft was created to promote Abraham Lincoln, his morals and ideals and his vision for America and the world; to make "political" games that emphasize Lincoln and his morals and ideals and his dreams and visions to help further him and his dream for America and the world; and to make games that emphasize gameplay, replay value, and challenge, as opposed to graphics, FMV, and eyecandy. Lincolnsoft doesn't want to make another eyecandy game, we emphasize games that are just pure fun, just like in the old days.

Lincolnsoft is currently developing Abraham Lincoln Land, our first game, which is quite possibly the longest platform game ever created. I originally designed this game in late 1995 (on paper), and development began May 20, 1999, and is scheduled to be completed completed sometime in 2005 (or maybe 2004). Lincolnsoft will focus mainly on 2D and 2-1/2D platform games, arcade-style games, and action-oriented RPGs, for the DOS, Windows 9x, and Linux OSes. Lincolnsoft's first project was Mario Improvement 3, a freeware level editor for Super Mario Bros.3, for all you NES emulation fans out there. Lincolnsoft supports the emulation commuity, because emulation preserves all those great classic games we know and love.

About the Founder

I am 23 years old, and I currently live in Springfield, Illinois. I love games, and of course I am also a Lincoln enthusiast. I have always loved to design games. I never thought of starting my own game company, until I intially started planning the idea for Lincolnsoft, in 1995, due to inspiration from Abraham Lincoln, who inspires me to continue Lincolnsoft. I always meant Lincolnsoft to be a "different" game company, one that promotes Abraham Lincoln and his morals and ideals, and his vision and his dream for America and the world. Instead of just developing games, I want to develop games that convey a certain message - a message that Lincoln would want us to hear. I want to succeed and make a difference in the world, the same way Lincoln did.

I love to design games and game levels, as well as write music. I'm new to game development, but of course I'm determined to make Lincolnsoft a reality. If you want to help with programming, or art (I'm really not too good in the art department) - for fun, not for pay (probably), or if you just have comments or questions, email me at To email me, type abe (in all lower case), then an at sign, then the 16th U.S. President's last name (in all lower case), then the opposite of hard (in all lower case), then a period, then com (in all lower case). Make sure there are no spaces..

Please use a clear subject line when emailing me, because I get a lot of spam. If you don't, your message might end up getting caught by my spam filter, and it might not get read. If your question is about a game or a program (e.g. Abraham Lincoln Land or Mario Improvement 3), make sure to read the FAQ (if I have one on my website for the particular program you are emailing me about) and the documentation first to see if there's an answer to your question before emailing me. Read the FAQ especially, if I have one for the game or program you're emailing me about.
